Frostbiting in Boston this wnter, anyone?

Greetings all ---

Boston area sailors -- looking for an opportunity to sail more this winter?

I, a struggling Laser racer, am looking for more time in the boat. For
years there's been a nice frostbite fleet at Cottage Park Yacht Club
<http://www.cpyc.org> in Winthrop, Massachusetts.

I spoke with the usual organizer who said that this year, with a couple
of recent marriages and geographic moves among fleet members, the fleet
looks to be hovering just below critical mass.

I'm not officially representing the club or the fleet, but I want to go
sailing this winter and it ain't gonna happen without more sailors. As
of last week there were about 5 of us or so; I've heard a couple of
positive responses to my intital queries -- another three or four and
we'd be on our way to having a fleet.

The good news is that because they race Interclubs as well, they're
already organized: there's already a race committee out there setting a
course, staffing crash boats, and running races every Sunday. All a
group of laser sailors would need to do would be to show up and sail,
and to volunteer for committee work and other tasks some of the time.

I'm not a member, and you don't need to be one to race -- for a
reasonable fee (I think it's $125 for the entire season) you can race
and use the facilities, which include a dock right next to the sailing
venue, boat storage, heated showers, and an attractive clubhouse.

It lacks the 50-boat fleets of Newport, but on the other hand, if you
live anywhere close to Boston, it's so close that you can get there, get
in five or six races, and be changed and warm with your boat put away in
about the time it would have taken you to drive to Newport. It doesn't
use up your whole Sunday.

I don't claim to be any kind of expert at organizing this sort of thing,
but if you have any interest, please let me know and we'll see if we can
generate a little more momentum.

Thank you
