August Laser Regattas in the PacNW

Laser Sailors,

August is stacking up to be an epic month for Laser racing in the Pacific
Northwest (US/CAN). Pack your bags.

The first weekend (8/5-7) we have the Gorge ODR in Cascade Locks, OR. Much
has been said about the 18 to 22 knot breeze with 2 knots of upwind current.
If you've not experienced the blasting runs and reaches in perfect Laser
conditions, give this one a try. It doesn't get much better than this anywhere in
the US. Note this is a three day regatta.

Also the first weekend (8/6-7) is the District 6 Grand Prix at the beautiful
Okanagan Lake in Summerland BC. This venue offers a different experience than
the Gorge in terms of wind and current, however it is no less serene and
beautiful. This venue offers on site camping, a dinner, and great racing on an
Alpine Lake in the Southern Okanagan.

Next weekend (8/13 - 14) the action moves to Yale Lake, WA for the Al Morris
Memorial Regatta, just south of Mount Saint Helens. Another beautiful Alpine
lake experience (multi fleet) with a first class cookout and camping Saturday
evening. The WSC volunteers always do a superb job of this regatta. PacNW
sailor Al Morris who, in the 70's, lost his life doing what he loved (racing
sailboats) would be proud of this regatta.

Mid month (8/21-22) you have the District 22 Champs on Flathead Lake in
Montana. While this is a little bit of a drive, everyone who has ever gone says it
is more than worth it. There is not a better bargain for a regatta than this
one. Superb hosts, dinner, beer, camping, Alpine lake sailing at its finest.
All for a registration fee of just $20. (NOR just posted)

Closing out the month (8/27-28) is the Northwest Youth Championships in
Seattle hosted by the Seattle Yacht Club at the Matthews Beach venue on Lake
Washington in Seattle. This event is on the Northwest Youth Circuit where the Youth
Laser sailors have made it known that they want to have the adults join them.
The parent and coach organizers of the Circuit have allowed the Youth voice
to be heard and adult Laser sailors are invited.

See the notice of race for each of these events on the Seattle Laser Fleet
web page (www.cycseattle.org/slf).
