ACC registration/Brandt Beach YC
I wrote to a fellow club member who used to belong to Brandt Beach YC, and
left him with the impression I was planning to sail in the ACC's. After
reading his comments on the area I wished I were planning to.

Great! You will love sailing there - the perfect small boat venue. The
bay isn't more than 5 feet deep anywhere except the channel at low tide.
Even with a strong breeze, the waves are rarely more than modest chop.
The facilities are great, with a nice long beach.
If you would just like to go on a nice long sail, you can sail south
from BBYC for about 10 miles before you run out of island. Bring a cell
phone, and you can have somebody pick you up - you can pull up on any
beach, and walk 50 yards to the street. You can sail a bit north from
BBYC, but if you go under the causeway, the greenhead flies bite like
mad. I never figured out how those flies know to stay on that side.
When we go to Long Beach Island these days, we stay at the Sea Shell
("the Shell") motel in Beach Haven. It is beachfront, and the rooms we
have had were clean and updated. They have a pool and a bar/lunch
counter and a restaurant right over the dunes from the beach. Might as
well stay a few days and enjoy the beach! Lots of places to shop and
eat are nearby. It's about a 15 minute drive from the club. The
Engelside Hotel is next door, and looks nice, but we have never stayed
there. Most hotels and motels have a 3-night minimum on the weekends.
Bay Village is a shopping plaza with waterslides and an amusement park,
and is where most tourists go in the evening. It's about 10 blocks or
so from the Sea Shell, and about 15 minutes from BBYC.
BBYC has a very active social calendar, with a cocktail party every
Friday night, and usually a theme dinner on Saturday night. Always a
good turnout, about 30-50 people or so. I'm sure they would be glad to
have you join them.
If you would like to try some fishing, the Miss Barnegat Light is a
catamaran head boat that leaves from near Barnegat Light. The skipper
really knows where those fish are. They mainly fish for flounder and
bluefish. If you are adventurous, they have an all night bluefishing
trip, which leaves at around 7PM and returns about 3AM. I caught over
20 large bluefish one night!
Our favorite restaurants are Ship Bottom Shellfish, the Boathouse,
Charles' Seafood Garden, and Octopus's Garden.
Hope you have a great time!
Regards,
Bob
