Indrek,
I don't bail at 0-5 kts. I hope you wouldn't bail at 20-30. I've seen
too many fair weather lightweights who come flying out of the woodwork when
the wind is light but disappear when the wind hits 15 -30. That's my
point.
Maybe the class is pandering to too wide an audience. So are you saying
that when the wind hits 15 you switch to a radial rig. What happens when
you go to a regatta and it is 5 kts the first day and 25 the rest of the
time. Do you go for it with a full rig, or do you bag it? It's illegal to
switch rigs. Most folks at 135 bag it and an 80 boat fleet goes to 45
sailors in the 155-210 weight range who have competed in ALL conditions.
At 200 lbs I embrace the challenge of a series with all conditions. I deal
with the light air with the same tenacity as 25kts. (although I truly enjoy
the big wind) Can you honestly say you do the same?. If you do, my hat is
off to you but you are truly in the minority. JK --
