Ok, well maybe we are all spending just a little too much bandwidth on The
Race because here is the message I get when I just try to open
www.therace.org (been like this all day)

>HTTP Error 403
>403.9 Access Forbidden: Too many users are connected
>
>This error can be caused if the Web server is busy and cannot process your
request due to heavy traffic. Please try to connect again later.

>Please contact the Web server's administrator if the problem persists.

So if anyone else gets through let me know what's going on. All I have now
is the measly information from www.quokkasailing.com

Subject: Quiet list

    Hi all,
Hasn't the laser list got quiet lately! I'm getting a bit
disappointed when I come in from work, check my e-mail and am lucky to get 2
or 3 messages. Now, we're all guilty, we bear a collective responsibility
for this deafening silence. Just 'cos its cold outside, and our lovely '13
foot, plastic diversionary apparatus' may not be seeing the use they get in
the summer, is no reason not to talk about it. After all,
talking/bitching/encouraging/arguing/advice-giving/moaning, are some of the
things the laser list is proven to be excellent at accomplishing.
Who can forget the discussion about carbon masts. A debate that I'm
sure
will run and run.
Or all the helpful maintenance posts, renewing tiller extension joints,
batten ends, what number is my boat? etc.
    Whether Bytes Bite!
A certain customer rights issue Re. a Coloured, zippered sail.
    THE NEW VANG!
    Rule 42.
And of course the Big Robert v. Ben debate, only narrowly surpassed by
the US Election Discussion, (Rebecca For President).
OK I had very little to do over the holiday, and reviewed the 2000 or so
posts I've recieved since subscribing last April. (I was responsible for 4
of them). I'm sure we can manage to do a little more. Share your pain as
you begin your pre-season fitness program. In the absence of Laser traffic
I'm sure we can spend a little bandwidth on 'The Race', (if no-one objects
of
course). Lets fill those mailboxes to summertime levels and have something
to
while away those long winter nights doing, (yes, I'm currently single, and
believe me, those winter nights are long!)
Can I just take this opportunty to wish everyone all the best in the new
year, and thank everyone who has contributed to a list that I'm sure must be
one of the best on the Net. It's certainly helped my return to the best
'God
Darn Boat' in the world.

     Yours

           John
