All - Sorry about my earlier "Masters Moment," and I'll try to hit only my 
intended buttons this time!

Ohio Laser Sailors -

Is the idea of Laser racing on a regatta circuit around the Buckeye State of 
interest to you?

This concept started with a chance e-mail a few weeks ago, and has gathered 
some serious interest from around the state in a short period of time.

The primary goal of having statewide inter-club Laser racing would be to open 
lines of communication, competition and learning between Ohio Laser owners, 
sailors and racers of various ages and levels.  Additional anticipated 
benefits include statewide Laser promotion through regional activities, 
contributing to District 18 activities and cohesiveness, and strengthening 
ILCA-NA's midwestern base of support.

As currently envisioned, there would be one circuit regatta in each of four 
state regions which would be conducted on (approximately) monthly intervals.  
Anticipated regions are:  1) Central/SE (Columbus);  2) SW 
(Cincinatti/Dayton;  3) NW (Toledo/Sandusky);  and 4) NE 
(Cleveland/Akron/Canton/Youngstown).  Prospective scheduling would consider 
existing annual Indiana regattas and avoid conflict with them. 

We, in Ohio, are most fortunate to be in a market of 10-million+ people who 
live in a fairly compact area of roughly 200x100 miles with a road system 
that can get anyone from one 'corner' to another in 3-4 hours.  It is an 
ideal formula for statewide inter-club racing, which could benefit District 
18 by getting more Western PA, KY, and IN sailors out and sailing on a 
districtwide level.

Both Fred and Shevy have offered to do whatever they can to help launch this 
concept.  In particular, Shevy has offered to expedite the development of 
District 18 fleet and club information on the "Where to Sail" section of his 
"drLaser" web site.

This concept is just a few weeks old, and feedback from all Ohio and District 
18 sailors, or others with organized inter-club racing would be greatly 
appreciated.
