My thoughts/ Rules for 2001 Masters Grand Prix

Suggested Rules for 2001 Masters Grand Prix:

Qualifying events and maximum points available: Nationals, North Americans:
30 points. Regional, Coast, Great Lakes, Florida, and California Masters:
25 points. Districts: 20 points

Grand Prix points earned = event maximum +1 - placing. (no change)

Competitor Eligibility: Competitors must be ILCA members at the time of
competition. Age group classification assigned according to the competitor's
age on July first. (no change)

Minimum number of competitors required to qualify for GP points: 5, (I'm
not sure this minimum requirement, whether it's five or seven, does anything
to encourage participation. If invoked, it could certainly be a turn off to
the future participation of those who put out the time and effort to attend.)

Maximum number of events to count toward an individuals GP point total: 5,
(This limit is probably relatively unimportant, except that a larger number
may positively affect turn out.)

Radial Masters Grand Prix: Where race organizers sanction a Radial class, of
five or more boats, within a Masters GP event, Radial class competitors
will score Grand Prix points according to their placing with respect to other
Masters in the Radial class, using Masters age handicapped scoring.

Note: Hosting clubs should understand when they agree to run an event, that
it is their responsibility to get the results to the ILCA promptly at the
conclusion of the competition.

The Masters GP events I see on calender for 2001 include:
