If at all possible heel the boat to weather, with sheet eased,as an aid to
bearing off, while you regain speed and steering control.
Make sure your sail's foot is not excessively full. A full foot like a
tight vang can make it difficult to get the boat out of irons and mooving
again.
Quickly pulling the boom to windward, with sheet eased and board half up,
can also be very effective way to get the bow off the wind, though this
technigue may be better suited to lighter wind, It only takes about a second
and a half, any longer and you may capsize in a force 5 wind.
