I think that's partly a matter of personal preference, and what you mean by
cold weather. I just spent 9 years sailing out of Mission Bay (San Diego)
and there cold meant air temperature under 60F, November through March only.
I've been happy with standard full length surfing wetsuits, with a Sears
mechanic's cover-all to triple the life of the wet suit and add a little
warmth. Add sweater, wool hat, gloves when sailing in northern climates.
Definitely keeps me out of the fashion shots.
Got great views of snowy peaks all around (Olympics, Cascades) last
Thursday, all socked in since then. Doesn't anyone do X-C skiing around
here?
