A RED balloon inflated to 6 inches with at least a 10d nail attached at the end of 3 ft. of string forms a really good signal that danger lies below. Drop them at each end of cracks, holes and other dangerous objects found between the launch site and the race course and on the race course.
This was done in Montreal at the World Cup and worked well. A zip-lock bag in your storage locker of your boat serves to carry them and everyone will appreciate your efforts. (Do not inflate more than 6 inches as the nail is not heavy enough when the wind really blows)
