In reviewing the references:

Paul called for three layers of glass. I have built runners with one and with two. The glass ensures there is epoxy in the spaces and in contact with the stainless, so glue isn't all wiped off clean when the runners are inserted.

You have to have holes drilled before the runners are hardened or you need special bits.

THe threaded rod can be cut from longer lengths and epoxy becomes the nut. THis is good.

Mark Isabel, Steve Orlebeck and John Davenport recently built some inserts using a hollow nut. WHen finished, there is a hole through which wing stiffeners can be added if desired. THis of course requires a bigger hole in the steel.
