There are a lot of ways to make shim material. I make mine out of super glue and fiberglass. I try to get 1 1/2 or 2 oz. fiberglass, this is some times available at hobby shops. Once I get the glass I soak it with super glue and using a plastic (bondo) squeege I squeeze out the excess glue. I then spray it with a setting spray like Insta-Set. All you have to do then is to cut it into about 3/4" strips. It can the be super glued to the runner. One thing to keep in mind is to only glue the shims to the inboard side(towards the hull) of the runner. If the shim is too thick, it can easily be sanded to the desired thickness.
