I have used the dowel rod method on at least 2 boats,one that was split real bad ,drilled the holes for the dowels opened up the cracks and filled everything with west,If I remember I used 1/4" dowels and ran a small grove on the side of the dowel for the air to escape when the dowel was inserted in the holes.that was 10 years ago and I still race that boat and have'nt had any problems since. Iam not sure but I think the rules say you cant use any metal reinforcement in hull construction, but dont quote me on that.I fix first then read the rules.
