Ken, read the book .Saw the movie .I have read the specs so many times that my book is falling apart. It is because I want my boats to be class legal that I have asked for opinions on this forum. It is what the rules don't say that i find confusing in some cases . I wanted to devise a system for mast foot adj. which didn't require taking the mast down and that could be tightened down with one bolt or attached with a pin. The methods I have seen for adjusting the mast base (Sarns, sailboat track and car, etc.) seemed heavy and complicated .Maybe The question that I should have posted was ,is grooving the hull to accomadate the mast base in conflict with A-16 ''the hull must be rectangular....etc.'' With the design I was considering the nut and bolt would be the onlypart of the system that would be below the surface of the deck .Surely these would be considered fasteners and be allowable but if a groove in the deck is in conflict with A-16 ,(and I can see the logic in that)then my design must be reworked to eliminate the need to cut a groove in the deck. thanks for the fast response and thorough reply . wayne
