I wind surf in the summer months and I like the way windsurf boards use a clamping system for mast base connection to the hull I was thinking of using a similar design on a DN I am currently building. The concept could require routing a slot in the hull under the mast base plate to accomadate the nut (3/4x3/4 x1/4 bronze plate with a threaded hole to take 5/16 bolt). The mast base plate would have a 5/16 slot cut into it the length of the required adjustment and an opening at one end of the slot 3/4x3/4 to insert the nut ,just like a windsurfer mast track or fin box. Is it permissable to penetrate the hull to accomadate hardware in this fashion also I was wondering if the bottom edge of the hull, where the side boards meet bottomskin , can be rounded off or must it be left as a hard edge ? Any commemts would be appreciated
